Mary Rizzo, Psy.D is a post-doctoral clinical therapist. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern University. Dr. Rizzo's experience includes work in behavioral health hospitals, university counseling centers, and an outpatient family counseling setting. She works with adolescents, adults, and families, specializing in grief and loss, trauma, and relationship concerns. She also works with caregivers for chronic diseases, the transgender population, and those struggling with identity exploration. In addition to therapy, Dr. Rizzo provides psychological testing across the lifespan to assess intellectual functioning, academic concerns, ADHD-related symptoms, learning and behavioral styles, and diagnostic clarification regarding clinical diagnoses.
Dr. Rizzo's approach centers around Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: which focuses on acceptance of life's unavoidable challenges and being in the present moment without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Exploration of the client's personal values is used as motivation to implement change and live a more meaningful life. Dr. Rizzo creates an environment of warmth, kindness, and non-judgement to work collaboratively with the client to achieve their goals. She utilizes client's strengths to develop more positive thinking and compassion regarding oneself when overcoming challenges.
