Kamila Smyk, Psy.D., is a postdoctoral clinical therapist. She received her degree in Clinical Psychology at Adler University in Chicago. Kamila also holds two MA degrees: in Cross-Cultural Psychology from University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warszawa, Poland (2003) and in Clinical Psychology from Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago (2019). She is fluent in Polish language and culture.
Kamila has worked and trained in a variety of settings including social service agencies, private practice, community mental health clinic and a university counseling center. She has provided counseling services to a wide range of people of different ages and life stages, races, ethnicities, religions, socio-economic status, including those for whom English was a non-native language. Kamila helps clients with their concerns related to low self-esteem, anxiety and panic attacks, depression, trauma, romantic and family relationships issues, career counseling, anger management, substance abuse, domestic violence, and partner violence issues.
Kamila believes that true healing happens in a therapeutic relationship with a client that is based in trust, authenticity, unconditional acceptance, empathy, and gentle guidance. Her clinical work is informed by the person-centered and psychodynamic approaches enriched by a multicultural lens. Kamila also received training in the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MSBR) program and is passionate about incorporating the mind-body work into therapy. Kamila not only strives to help her clients feel better but also wants to help them connect to who they really are: their true, authentic and unique self.
