Dr. Erica Schulz is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She received her doctorate from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Schulz works with children and families, as well as teens and adults utilizing Individual and Family therapy. She finds importance in practicing types of therapy that allow her to understand a person from their own perspective, honor their potentially difficult past, while helping them through a potentially difficult present. She focuses on a person’s needs and what might work best for them. This might look like talk-therapy, engaging in play, or using a meditation-like approach to help guide therapy. Dr. Schulz is optimistic by nature and has a good sense of humor. She believes that the relationship is the most important part when working with a client and she lets this lead the treatment process. Dr. Schulz completed the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 1 and Level 2 training. These were comprehensive training programs that have allowed her to practice IFS psychotherapy, which is a respectful way to approach the parts of us that create challenges in our lives. The Level 2 training was specifically geared towards using IFS with children. Dr. Schulz is also a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator and uses the principles of Positive Discipline when working with children, adolescents, and families. This approach holds the belief that children do well when they can. It can also help parents identify the motivation behind their child’s behavior, help the child or adolescent feel heard and understood, and help improve the parent’s relationship with their child.
